Why Do They Fail?

We are in the last week (Week 10) of my ALIVE Across America program and the emails and phone calls I’ve received are continued testimony to the benefits of empowerment, a sense of community, and a true technology of change.  ALIVE changes lives for the better, gradually, consistently, and without any guilt, deprivation, or struggle.

Group of fitness people. Isolated over white background. If this group of progressive exercisers, ranging from 16 to 81, can better their bodies and lives in only 10 weeks, why do so many fail, despite valiant attempts at change?  I can answer that.  After 30 years in the trenches as a fitness professional and health catalyst, I can say, every failed fitness attempt, barring injury or the unwillingness to try, stems from the very same root cause.

The underlying cause of EVERY failed fitness attempt is related to either, an absence of the right information or a subconscious clinging to false beliefs.

As fitness professionals work to effectively improve upon the physiques and performance abilities of the fit and near-fit, the largest segment of our adult population fails miserably as they progress toward chronic disease and accumulation of fat.  Fitness professionals have not been effectively trained in the differences between prompting change in the fit population, and prompting long-term improvement in what we can now  call the average American.

In a teleconference with one of my Be Better coaching groups, one of the high level personal trainers in the group triggered a bit of a rant.  He referenced the difficulty in getting people to even listen to truth, and the comment set me off.  Not in a bad way.  In a deep-down honest way where my frustrations with today’s realities poured out along with my firm commitment to solutions (I’ll invite you to listen in a moment).

Tomorrow night (or tonight, depending on when you’re reading this), Tuesday, September 9, I’m conducting my 75-minute Better and Better webinar.  It empowers people in a stunning way with science and truth.  If you haven’t yet registered, I’d urge you to be there.  I’ll share the registration link below.

First, I thought you might want to eavesdrop on a few minutes of my rant, just to get a sense of the passion, the frustration, and the solutions to helping people find their optimal health and well being in a 21st century world where it just isn’t easy.

Listen here (then come back to this page):

OK, so if you’re reading, I assume you listened, and if you listened, you now understand why webinars have proven to be a vital vehicle for me to share the realities, to allow people insights into the simplicity of change in a world where it all seems so confusing.

Fat To Fit Before After 3D Man Weight Loss Success

Register at: http://yourhealthbeginsnow.com/75minutesregistration/

Uh Oh.

If you haven’t registered, and you’re not presently thrilled with your body, your health, or your sense of well being, you’re being attacked by the procrastination monster.  He fills your head with questions and concerns.  I’ll take care of a few, then ask you to register one more time . . .

Q. I just saw the picture.  It’s a man.  Is this a program for men?

A: Sure, and women as well.  As a matter of fact, in looking at the roster of folks of all ages who have found benefit with the ALIVE protocol, the program built upon the science shared in the webinar, it falls nearly 50 – 50 men and women.  You want another picture?  OK, here ya go . . .

Fat To Fit Before After Diet Weight Loss Success

Q. I see there’s weight loss involved and I hate hate hate diets.  I am plagued by junk foods, I know they’re bad for me, but I just can’t go on a diet that forces me to trade my favorites for salad.

A. There is no sense of deprivation.  You never cut calories.  You learn to make better choices in a way that is fully  do-able, and you’ll be thrilled to know, not only will you likely eat as much or more than you have been eating, but you’ll learn to boost metabolism without ever feeling the need to give up the favorites.  Because the program is empowering, you’ll also learn to reduce or eliminate cravings, to become the creator of your appetite, and to rid yourself of any guilt feelings intrinsically attached to dieting.

Q. I’m not an exercise person.  I’ve tried but I never stick to it.

A. Adherence and compliance are addressed in depth in the program curriculum.  Nobody does it perfectly.  Nobody. Everyone who follows the program finds betterment.  Everyone.  Part of what you’ll learn relates to the mistake of exercise volume.  In the first week you’ll exercise only 9 minutes.  Honestly.  In the webinar you’ll learn why six movements and six minutes of aerobic exercise are all you need.  I know it sounds absurd, but that’s only because you’ve been misled for a very long time.

Learn the truth.

Register for the Better and Better webinar event, September 9 at 7 PM Eastern Time.

Nobody Gets Fat on Labor Day Unless . . .

Listen, nobody “sticks to their diet” on Labor Day, which is why after the summer Holiday weekends people feel guilty, self-critical, and all around rotten.

It isn’t humanly possible to get “out of shape” in a day or even in a weekend unless the celebration becomes an emotional or genetic trigger for continued bad behavior.  When you come to understand both, the complexity and simplicity of human metabolism (as I’ll teach you), you’ll realize that fat accumulation, abdominal adiposity (belly fat), obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension are the results of long-term actions that insidiously flip genetic switches, programming you for an outcome other than health.  Remembering you can’t get fat or fatter in a day or a weekend, one of the healthiest things we can do in life is to find balance between betterment and celebration.  When I show you how to restore perfect health, and you begin taking a few simple actions, everything changes.  Most of all, guilt, regret, and self-criticism go buh-bye.

It’s fun to eat when you know you have control of metabolism.  Balance is the key.  That’s what I’m about to offer you the light on the other side of the weekend.

September 9, I’m conducting my Better and Better webinar.  I’ll share 16 secrets, six moves, and 24 seconds that will change your life, and I mean that with all sincerity.  You’ll learn why some of the diet strategies you think are healthy are perilous, why the mistake of “too much exercise” is plaguing our population, and how you can quickly and easily gain control of mindset, metabolism, and the way your body looks feels and functions.

After Labor Day, assuming slots are still available (only 70 spots are left right now), I’ll post a lengthier blog post asking you to enroll in this life-altering event, an event that you’ll “attend” from the comfort of your own home, but I’m inviting you to do something now.  Short circuit the guilt before it shows up!  Register now, then enjoy every reasonable temptation, every celebratory moment, and every bite of those less-than-perfect foods that will cross your line of sight.

Enjoy the end of summer, knowing that beginning September 9, you’ll have a new fail-proof strategy for undoing all of your past indulgences, for embarking on a path of being “Better and Better.”

I’ll give you one more simple tool.  Register for the webinar today, block out 75 minutes on your calendar on September 9 at 7 PM (and if you can’t, you can access the full recording 24 hours later), and I’ll send you 3 “notes” pages, all set up for you to learn and master the 16 secrets, the 6 moves, and the magic of the 24 second strategy that has been a miraculous vehicle for restoration of perfect health.

Click here, sign up now, and Tuesday morning, when the weekend is behind you, you’ll find the note pages in your Inbox.  Have them with you on September 9 and you’ll walk away with the greatest power you could wish for . . . the power to make your body better . . . and better!

Enjoy the weekend!  See you September 9, at 7 PM! The webinar is fully interactive. . . and if for any reason in the world you don’t find it to be worth the absurdly affordably $12.97 registration fee, you’ll be able to get an immediate refund (no refunds will be offered for non-attendance).

REGISTER.  NOW.  And celebrate Labor Day guilt free!

The word miracle has been so overused . . . and for years, decades, I’ve been battling advertisers who claimed there were weight loss miracles, muscle miracles, and miracle cure-alls.  Today I’m here to tell you, there are miracles, but none of them come in bottles, boxes, or containers.

The miracles are those that have existed for eons, the miraculous balance of nature, the miraculous state of health we’re born into, our bodies and their miraculous healing abilities, and the miracles of wind, rain, sunlight, soil, crops, the oceans, and the heavens.  We may not be fully capable of understanding or harnessing these miracles, but as we get closer, we realize they are not as much the outcomes of modern science as they are the uncovering of age-old realities mankind has yet to unravel.

Thankfully, we have scientists today with the wisdom to consider the ancient words of Plato, Socrates, and alchemists and philosophers of history as insights and truths, and the more we come to understand true health (in a world that man has manipulated to challenge the miracles of nature), the more we find we hold more of these secrets within our spirits, minds, and our collective consciousness than we might have imagined.

The A.L.I.V.E. program is changing bodies and lives, not because of new drugs, new supplements, or amazing innovations.  It works because it relies upon the innate miracles of healing that we can access with the proper strategies.

We can transform bodies, not because of new powdered formulas that promise steroid-like results, but because nature has equipped us with an innate power to connect with all that is pure and good and supportive of perfect cellular function.

We can restore lost health, not because of the drug companies’ pursuits in the hunt for profitable pharmaceuticals, but because if we begin to understand some of the vital keys to balance, we allow our bodies to undo the maladaptive programming that has become all-too-common in the 21st century.

In line with these perspectives, I want to share three things with you, three separate invites I hope you’ll consider.

  1. CHANGE YOUR BODY AND LIFE BEGINNING AUGUST 11!The next official ALIVE Across America group begins September 15th for only $25 a week, but because of the immense demand I’ve had, I opted to create a smaller group who will go through the program using recorded webinars beginning August 11.  It’s the same $25 per week, but there isn’t any need to wait until September.  You can start finding betterment right away! If you have interest, fire off a quick email to phil@philkaplan.com with SUBJECT: ALIVE NOW and I’ll respond with further details.  If you want to register for the September 15 group, do it now at http://yourhealthbeginsnow.com
  2. AMAZING SEMINAR WITH MASURU EMOTO IN BOCA RATON!This is a biggie for my friends in South Florida. Masaru Emoto, The amazing author of The True Power of Water (and a host of other books), an esteemed Japanese researcher and doctor of alternative medicine who has documented the links between consciousness and the molecular structure of H2O, that material that compromises most of our physical bodies, is coming to Boca Raton for a rare speaking event.  The depths of possibility his theories open up run so far into health, healing, fitness, and cure, they may work to completely shift our entire paradigm.  I have no agenda in telling you this other than to share.  I’m attending, sitting in the audience, purely as a student.  It’s this Wednesday evening.  I wouldn’t miss it, and there are seats available.  It’s being hosted by the Kabbalah Center, 8111 W Palmetto Park Road in Boca.  It is pretty close to capacity so send an email to sarah.munis@kabbalah.com and tell her you’re a friend of mine as soon as you decide you’re attending.  She’ll register you and direct you further (Seats are $32).  Also send me an email (phil@philkaplan.com) if you’re coming so I can look for you there and say hi.  If you’re not sure, if you’ve never heard of Masaru Emoto, if you never saw What the Bleep Do We Know, or if you’re just plain curious, just do a Google search on Emoto and Water and decide for yourself if this is as special an event as I believe it to be.
  3. REVERSE HIGH BLOOD PRESSUREI’ve witnessed miraculous (yes, miraculous) shifts in chronic disease conditions as people have come to understand and apply the science behind my A.L.I.V.E. protocol. To heighten awareness of the roots of this “science” I’m writing a book, scheduled for release early next year titled, The Six Point Secret to Perfect Health.  The challenge has been getting people who rely upon medications to better understand their conditions and take steps to release the natural power their bodies have to heal using specific exercise, eating, and lifestyle strategies.  High blood pressure afflicts near 40% of our adult population and I’ve found most people I’ve met harboring the condition are misinformed.  In an attempt to deliver insight that’s science based but understandable, I posted an article on Hypertension at a developing website, http://sixpointsecret.com.  If you’d be kind enough to read the article and provide some feedback, I’d appreciate it, and if you see fir, I urge you to forward it to anyone you know who has hypertension or has a history of blood pressure elevations.

So . . . in summary . . . be observant.  Notice the miracles around you, and start to consider, at a higher level, the miracles that come along with breath, love, talent, and human connection and while it’s a far cry from the paradigm that says “take a pill and fix the ailment,” you’ll gradually start to recognize the hidden powers that have always been here . . . the ones we’re just too involved in pursuit of new miracles to appreciate.

A Note to ALIVErs (for everyone)

Originally I wrote this specifically for the ALIVE Across America members, but I decided to post it to my blog, as the strategy . . . the integration of active recovery into an exercise lifestyle, applies to anyone.  “Active recovery” refers to the other end of the stress scale, the vital recuperative activities that allow stress to make you stronger . . . better.  Many exercise attempts fail to bear fruit because of the absence of an understanding of this vital balance.

Talk to any adult human being living in 2014 between the ages of 22 and 72 and ask a simple question, “how’s your stress level.”  Then . . . back up.  It’ll come pouring out in your direction and might not stop for awhile.

Empty toilet paper roll on white isolated background. 3dIf there’s any unfulfilled need, any short supply, any want beyond today’s possessions, there’s going to be stress, and everything else simply adds to the load.

Boyfriend problem?  Stress.  Girlfriend issue?  Stress.  Kids in high school?  Stress.  Kids in college?  Stress.  Health concerns?  Stress.  Rising costs, unexpected expenditures, compromises in income, shifts in family, shifts in home situation, shifts in relationships?  Stress, stress, stress, stress, stress.

When I speak of ALIVErs, I’m referring to the group of newly educated and transformed individual who have experienced the transformational power of the ALIVE protocol.  ALIVErs are not typical adults.  Throughout the 10 weeks of the program they come to understand stress as an important part of what we’re all made to handle, and to benefit from.  The trick lies in “handling it” by keeping in balanced with the body’s innate and acquired ability to recuperate.  With your physical body, in going through ALIVE, you’ve taken on stress, used it for developing some new toughness, and allowed the innate adaptation process to work in your favor by understanding and managing the balance between what we call “Stress Load” and “Recovery.”

Stress Level Conceptual Meter Indicating MaximumStress Load is inclusive of emotional stress, toxic stress, exhaustive stress (lack of sleep), and physical stress.  In that we realize that if stressors are high, exercise stress must be well managed.  “Too much exercise” (specifically defined for each individual circumstance) can push an individual beyond the limits of stress tolerance.  As we gradually add intensity, volume, or enhanced challenge to our routines, we must also appreciate the importance of the Recovery side of the scale.

The ALIVE Across America program is designed so you slowly progress from a 9-minute low-stress routine to a fully efficient challenge that increases significantly over the course of 10 weeks.  As physical stress is increased, we want to ensure the body gets better at utilizing oxygen, at maximizing oxidative muscle fiber, and of recruiting the parasympathetic recovery system to follow physical exertion with relaxed metabolic optimization.  Big words.  What they amount to is . . . as we increase exercise, we also increase recovery.

The 10-week program strategically teaches you to manage energy output with downtime and healing.  After you complete the program once, you have developed an intuitive understanding of increasing challenge, and there’s a tendency to jump into the next go-around more aggressively, with a greater focus on “more.”  Here’s where it might be in your best interest to consider another element of recovery.

Close up portrait of hard laughing young man. Isolated on whiteLaughter is a powerful state that contributes to the body’s recuperative ability.  It drives the formation and circulation of endorphins, neurotransmitters, and endocrine compounds that lead to relaxation of smooth muscle tissue, reduction in adrenal activity, and enhanced cellular repair.  Love is an emotion that likewise produces neurotransmitters that tend to make the body better (at least in the early stages of a new relationship).  Incorporating new laughter and love can create almost magical healing.

As you have increased the intensity of your training, you have to find new ways to aid in recovery, and that’s why the Four Days You Love concept should work wonders for you.

This is a strategy I use with roundtables I conduct for executives in the fitness field.  They’re all stressed by employee issues, revenues, costs, and the constant never-ending chaos that emerges when you open the doors of a health club and allow living minds and bodies to enter.  Add in an attempt to balance work and family life and “Stress Load” hits maximum levels.  For them, the idea of “Days You Love” is not an option, but a must.

The concept is, block out four days on the calendar, ideally one per week, during which nothing enters other than joy.  If you have to go to the dentist, the Day You Love is off limits. If you have a stressful meeting to schedule, it can’t happen on a Day You Love.

Some choose to schedule beach days, others choose to do the things they most love about their jobs.

Singer Girl SingingIf you love to dance, dance, if you love to sing, sing.  Finger paint.  Roller blade.  Roll down a grassy hill and relive your childhood.  A Day You Love isn’t necessarily a vacation day (as even those, at times, can be stressful) but rather a stress-less recuperative day during which you enjoy every moment.

Some opt to set aside time with their families, others opt to set up “time with the guys” or “girls day out.”  It can be a Spa Day, an outing to a sporting event, a backyard barbecue, or for adventurers, a day of kayaking through the Everglades.  It shouldn’t include scheduled exercise, but if you love running, it can include a morning run or a scenic jog on some terrain that you enjoy.

Having FunIf you love tennis, softball, or flag football, these become ideal activities for Days You Love.  It’s personal to you.   Nobody else can effectively schedule a Day You Love.  You have to.  It’s a great exercise in balance, and in recovery.

So . . . for those of you who are going through the program again . . . and consciously challenging yourself at increasing levels, consider implementing this strategy . . . scheduling Four Days You Love, one per week over the next four weeks, and if you’re comfortable with it, reporting both as to your plans and your outcome.  Because ALIVE is designed to integrate into your lifestyle, this counts as a part of your “program.”

Do it.  Love it.  It all serves to make you . . . . Better!

Human Betterment in Minutes

Better WayRead this now. It’s inviting you to an event that takes place VERY SOON . . . Tuesday, April 22, an event that may prove more powerful in bringing you toward perfect health and optimal fitness than anything you’ve ever done, and your time investment is only 45 minutes!

I know you’ve tried eating better, exercising differently, but if you’re like most people, you followed a conventional path.  Here’s my promise to you.  There’s a Better Way, and I’ll share the details with you with no holds barred.

Webinar ConceptOn Tuesday, I’m conducting my 45-minute Better and Better webinar, content I just conducted for three major health organizations, a presentation that has proven to change lives so radically the thank you emails and phone calls come in daily. If I were to excerpt some of the phrases most common in those thank you expressions, I’d have to include, “smaller clothes.” “new joy for living.” “amazing energy.” “restoration,” “power,” and most of all “my doctor was amazed.”

Better and BetterThis is not hype, this is not conjecture, this is not empty promise. Better and Better, in three-quarters-of-an-hour, empowers you to understand the simplicity of being better, and I promise you, regardless of your past experience, age, or exercise history, this WILL WORK FOR YOU! If you are from an alien planet or if you are a robot or cyborg, I make no guarantees, but if you are a human born on the planet Earth, the science will hold true for you.

Beyond the introduction and wrap-up, the webinar is broken into four 10-minute sections:

  1. betterandbetter-realreasonsThe Real Reasons For America’s Health Decline (the reasons are NOT what you may think, and I warn you, this will reveal hard-hitting realities that border on criminal)
  2. The Simplicity of Eating Right (sure, you’ve heard “eat right” before, but this will crystallize the elusive truths and cut through all of the BS we’re all subjected to daily)
  3. The Amazing and Elusive Science Behind Exercise as a Curative Modality of Change (the body-of-evidence is stunning, but it’s buried by those who have an agenda in distributing meds, procedures, and costly therapies)
  4. The Specific Foundation of the Program Superior to Meds in Reversing Fat Accumulation, Metabolic Slowdown, and Chronic Disease (you’ll walk away with a new power to change for the better)

At the 45-minute mark, the webinar will be complete, but I will stay on the line (and in the online virtual “room”) for up to an additional 45 minutes to answer any and all questions. Unfiltered. Unscreened. You ask, I’ll answer.

Bigstock_28587494What excuse do you have for missing this? Is it an issue of having the time? It’s ONLY 45 minutes, and if for any reason you have to miss the live event, everyone registered will receive access to the complete recording.

How about, “this is too good to be true?” If that’s the burning concern, put me to the test. You’re not going to be held prisoner, you can hang up at any time, and even the $12.97 registration fee is refundable if you don’t believe it was worth 100 times your investment (no refunds for non-attendance as this event will sell out and all slots will be filled preventing others from enrolling).

Is money the excuse? Twelve bucks! Less than you spend on breakfast, and backed by a money-back guarantee.

Don’t mistake this as a push to drive you to register. It isn’t. It is, however, a push for you to register now if you have any interest in betterment. There are a limited number of “seats” in the chat room and based on prior events of this type, it will certainly fill up.

What can you learn in 45 minutes?

  • BetterandBetter-TheGutMindYou’ll learn about the “Gut-Mind” and how it overshadows the brain in its systemic programming.  Amazingly, most Americans have accidentally “programmed” their neural networks for Obesity . . . and this condition is 100% correctable!
  • You’ll learn why “back pain” rarely starts as a back problem, and how simple movements can restructure the entire musculoskeletal system.
  • You’ll be shocked to learn of the links between food, lifestyle, and depression and why, in most cases, the worst thing you can do is attempt to “cure” depression with medication.
  • You’ll be blown away when you come to understand how simple shifts in the way you eat and the way you move move you forward along the health continuum, away from dis-ease and back toward the state of Perfect Health you were born into.

Other topics?

Fat loss?  Check.

Muscle development?  Check.

Aerobic exercise (and why 6 minutes proves superior to 45 or 50)?  Check

Blood sugar.  Check.  Blood pressure?  Check.

The list goes on.

Know this.  It’s a non-stop information-packed wildly empowering 45 minutes and you want to be there.

I’ll finish up by telling you the post-event downloads you’ll receive are alone worth hundreds of dollars. You’ll get an overview of a meal plan based on the nutritional information shared along with a complete outline of the foundational exercises and routine that underlie the success of the A.L.I.V.E. protocol in driving positive physical change. Remember, there’s also the Q&A opportunity that will allow you to get any and all of your questions answered.  Click here for further info or go ahead and register.  Nothing to lose, your healthy and fit future to gain.

REGISTER NOW.  It’s Tuesday, April 22, at 7 PM.

See you there.

Breakfast . . and another 45 minutes

20140416_114934I’m sitting at the Prosecco Café in Palm Beach Gardens.  I’d have to vote this the best smelling café in South Florida.  No, I won’t eat the muffins and pastries that find their way from the ovens to the showcase with aromas that tempt my senses, but I have to admit, it smells really really good.

I’m meeting a colleague here to discuss a speaking relationship, a media tour sharing the virtues of a 21st century approach to health and fitness.  I’m here early, already decided on my breakfast item (The “David” monster-sized egg white veggie omelet) so I broke out the little laptop and thought it an ideal time to invite you to get the entire message, the keys to 21st century health, in only 45 minutes.  I wish it were as simple as an egg white omelet, but it’s a bit more complex than that.  The trick for me is delivering impact, empowerment, and science in 45 minutes . . . and I’m going to.

Yes, you give me 45 minutes, I’ll give you the inner keys to health, fitness, strength, and power all specific to understanding the obstacles, pitfalls, and absurdities of the 21st century.

I know it’s hard to believe.  After all, 45 minutes isn’t even enough to sit through an episode of Gray’s Anatomy or The Good Wife.

How can such empowerment reveal itself in such a short time?  It’s just . . . well . . . hard to believe.

Skeptical business woman - isolated over white
Hmmm. 45 minutes for the secrets of health? I’d like to believe . . .

Much of what I do falls under the “hard to believe” banner.  It’s hard to believe that with my new generation A.L.I.V.E. program people are losing fat, improving body composition, and recognizing amazing improvements in health with only 6 minutes of aerobic exercise a day.  Yes, it’s hard to believe.  It’s also hard to believe that the first week of the program introduces a 9-minute routine that has such a profound effect the changes reveal themselves in days.  It’s not only hard to believe, it’s something more.  It’s science.  It’s the science that lies between the field of fitness and the field of medicine.

It’s hard to believe ONLY because you don’t yet understand some of the shocking realities that empower people, regardless of past attempts, to regain control over metabolism, strength, shape, power, and body composition . . . and that’s why I’m inviting you to invest a whopping 45 minutes in putting me to the test.

On Monday (April 21), I’m going to send out a lengthy email promoting my Better and Better webinar, a 45-minute event delivered to you in your home via your computer and phone, a 45-minute webinar that will give you “a-ha” after “a-ha,” bringing you to a place where you nod your head and say, “I get it.  It’s simple.  I CAN change for the better . . . starting NOW!”

Put me to the test.  Attend with your guard up, with doubt, and with skepticism.  Just leave a bit of room for an open mind, as the information I’ll share is life-altering.  I know.  I’ve applied it with over 1,000 people.  I conducted the “Better and Better” webinar once before, about 8 weeks ago, and to date some of those attendees are getting off meds they thought they needed for life.  Some are buying new clothes their bodies changed so radically.  Others are planning trips, vacations, and events they thought were out of reach due to prior physical limitation.

The lengthy promotional email will go out on Monday to promote the Tuesday event (April 22, at 7 PM).  This will sell out.  If you don’t want to wait until Monday, you can get a sneak peek now.  Go to:

20140416_103405Oh, as a final note, I should share the vision of the David, the egg white omelet to beat all egg white omelets.  It isn’t the secret to total health and fitness, but thankfully it fits nicely in the category of foods to enjoy while you’re experiencing betterment.  If you opt to visit Prosecco Cafe, tell them I sent ya!

The Phone is To Blame!

For some unexplained reason, my Google Chrome browser “failed to connect” yesterday.   I noticed the little blue light on my modem, the light that’s supposed to assure me that my Wifi is working, went dark.

No light, no Wifi.

I called Comcast, dialed “1,” listened to the instructions, dialed “3” for Wireless Internet, and was attacked by static-ridden music you’d only listen to if you’re captive on the phone . . . as I was.

After 9 minutes and 28 seconds, a human voice welcomed me.  I explained my reason for sitting on the phone listening to irritating music and the man who identified himself as Jerry disingenuously gave me the well rehearsed “I’m sorry, Mr. Kaplan, that you’re experiencing this problem with your Wifi” line and proceeded to trouble shoot.  15 minutes into our conversation he told me there’s nothing he can do on his end.  I need a new modem.  Grrr.  Wasted time.  I hate wasting time, but my time wasting had only just begun.

The “need a new modem” statement is followed by three choices. I could ship my modem back, have them ship me a new one, and pay shipping charges.  I could schedule a visit from my friendly Comcast technician (full knowing the technician never arrives in the scheduled window of time) and pay for a service call.  The third option was the most appealing.

“Stop by your local Comcast office and they’ll just trade it out for a new one.”

I chose option #3.

I arrived at the Comcast office, walked into a roomful of people, and was given a little ticket that said 04.

I was number 4!  Yay.

Oh wait.  Not yay.  The number four would have been really good if they had started at zero.  It would have been really nice . . . had the voice not called out “number 82.”

Yes, “4” came 5 people after 99.  And we were still in the low eighties.

In all I spent one hour and twenty minutes at the Comcast office, another 75 minutes on the phone with the “Activation Department” and I conclude, life was simpler when we only had one phone line and an answering machine, a desktop plugged into an Ethernet cable, and only 75 channels on our televisions with premium channels limited to HBO and Showtime.

All in all, I had given more than three hours to the task of getting my internet connection working as it should have been to begin with.  Three hours sucked from my life for this single exercise.  This is the inevitable sacrifice we make to have the benefit of new technology.  Three hours here, three hours there, and a number of minutes listening to recorded voices giving us menus of options.

Here, in this 21st century, it’s interesting to work with people who have to find time to exercise.  “I don’t have time” is the most readily available excuse” and people love to pull it out anytime they’re challenged by a decision to commit to movement.

These people are busy.  Very busy.  They have jobs, families, obligations, and . . . technology.  Let’s assume the job takes 8 hours out of the day.  Let’s give 4 hours to kids’ obligations and family time.  That does seem consuming, but it should allow for 30 minutes of exercise on any given day, even allowing for a full eight hours of sleep.   What, then is robbing people of that additional time?

I point the finger at technology.  Yes, the very computer I’m typing on right now is a time thief if I let my guard down.  I believe the technology we treasure is becoming a parasitic epidemic and unless we take some control back from the automated world of texts, tweets, and log-ins, we’re doomed, at least physically.

As technology invades, humankind moves closer to becoming a swarm of expressionless blobs with forward head and rounded shoulders and chronic back pain (from sitting hunched over a computer all day)

Since my Comcast experience yesterday, I’ve been highly cognizant of the bane of technology.  After my workout today, an exercise session in a gym where everyone is wearing ear buds or big headphones, where conversation is limited to the occasional yelling (to be heard over the headphone music) of  “are you done with that?”, I stopped in one of my favorite local sushi restaurants for lunch.  There were 9 people at the sushi bar when I arrived.

I sat down, said hello to the sushi chefs and was greeted by the waitress.  I then realized, the others at the sushi bar weren’t people, they were zombies.  Their blank stares gave it away.  They were the undead.  Oh, wait, they weren’t staring at nothing . . . they were staring at their phones.  All 9 of them.  Just staring, and touching, and swiping, and robotically shoving rolls into their mouths, and staring some more.

What in the world are all these people so busy with?  What majorly important tasks are being performed through their cell phones that warrant a commitment to the blank-faced stare?  What can each one of them be so busy with that they are prevented from connecting with the world around them?  Are they watching their investments?  Texting remedies to sick relatives?  Match-dot-comming?

I decided I’d ask.

I turned to the woman on my right, and said, not-by-accident loudly, “I was just out in California and when you sit at a sushi bar there, everyone talks to each other.  I realize here in Florida, people are busier, but I wonder what important things everyone’s dealing with on their phones?”

The woman looked at me uncertain of how to respond, caught in a tug-of-war between giving me her momentary attention or returning to the safety of her phone, but the guy at the end of the bar broke the silence when he said, “I was just reading about the missing plane.”

“Did they locate it?”

“So what are you reading?”

“That they’re still looking.”  This is breaking news?  They’re also still looking for Jimmy Hoffa and the other shooter on the grassy knoll.

After hearing the inadequacy of the plane-watcher’s answer, the woman on my right then realized it was probably safe to reveal her recent activity.   Two words said it all.  “Candy Crush.”

The older man with the bushy gray hair said, “I’m still trying to figure out how to use this iphone.  I was used to my Blackberry, so I’m reading my emails and practicing sorting them.”

The electricity of the conversation extended beyond the sushi bar.  A woman at the table behind me held up her phone and said, “Facebook.  Did you see the video of the synchronized walking?”  The young man on my left acknowledged that he had.  If there was ever a moment in my life that made me feel as if I’m missing out on something, this wasn’t it.  I daresay if I went through the rest of my life without watching a synchronized walking video, I wouldn’t shed a single tear.

After five minutes of chatter, everyone went back into their phones, mindlessly emptying their plates and chewing without a visible sign of pleasure.  They chewed.  They stared.  It reminded me of a movie years ago with Robin Williams and Robert Dinero where comatose patients in a hospital came to life for a brief period of time, and then fell back into their comatose states.  For 5 minutes the sushi bar was animated, and as I left I walked away from The Chewing Dead (a new HBO series beginning in September).

I now understood.  The important urgent cell phone interactions are games, busy work, and mindless stories designed to infect us all with Attention Deficit Disorders.  No worries. There’s medication for that.

Listen . . . you can’t not have time to exercise!  Yes, I know, that’s bad grammar, but I reject autocorrect and while I’m rejecting . . .

I rebuke Twitter.  I shun Social Media.  I renounce Craigslist.  I even refuse onlinebootycall.com.  At least, as long as they try to prevent me from finding exercise time.

OK, here’s the good news.  There are 59 people who manage to balance life, technology, exercise, and radical improvements in health.  They are the people presently going through my ALIVE Across America program.  They rely on six foundational exercise movements they can do anywhere.  They learn to exercise in sessions as brief as 9 minutes, as lengthy at times as 30 minutes.  They learn to lose fat without dieting.  They commit to only six minutes of exercise in a single day.  They even learn to use social media to help them improve physically.

Yes, this is a program for 21st Century America, and it delivers extraordinary results.  As we enter Week 8 (of 10) the participants are seeing differences in body shape, in energy, in well-being, in fat loss, in strength, and in overall health.  People are getting off medications they’d been on for years believing the prescriptions were lifetime sentences.

I know the skepticism these claims summon up.  I encourage you to be skeptical, but ask the question, “what if it’s true?” and hold on to an open mind.

I invite you to join me for a 45-minute webinar during which I’ll share the science behind A.L.I.V.E.  I’ll show you how simple it is, even in a busy world, to gain control of your body, your metabolism, and your health.  Register for the Better and Better webinar (mixing technology with empowerment and human interaction), April 22, at 7 PM Eastern Time and put me to the test.

I claim that 45 minutes can change your life.  Find details on the Better and Better Webinar by clicking here and prepare.  Life will take on a new vibration.  You’ll be gifted with a new sense of your own potential.

A sense of awe and ease await you.

Butt Splinters

Confucius say, “man who sit on fence get splinter in his butt.”  OK, maybe he didn’t say that, but he should have.  Nobody wins the race, achieves the goal, makes dreams come true, or finds true victory by sitting on the fence that separates doing from not doing, the fence that separates action from thought.  If you’re going to achieve, you have to come over to the action side.

ALIVE Across America started this Monday.  Our participants are enjoying the 9-minute routine they perform daily (yes, only 9 minutes) and are surprised by the positive shifts in energy and the enhanced sense of well-being . . . almost instantly.  This is only the beginning.  Everyone in the group is moving forward, getting better.

bigstock-Three-Men-Sit-On-The-Fence-24095120The fence sitters aren’t getting better.  Some of them have emailed me immersed in the thought process of “should I or shouldn’t I?” That thought process is certain to lead to stagnation, unless at some point you leap.  If you’re up on the fence, not only do I want to protect you from butt splinters, but I want to push you over to the side of action.  I love to see people find thrilling outcomes, and they just don’t happen on the fence.

Believe me, I know and understand the apprehensions.  How could a 9 minute routine do anything when so many people invest hours and fail to see a payoff?  I answer that question in depth in the opening webinar.  The key to physical improvement is striking a balance between what I call “Stress Load” and “Recovery.”  In the very first week we learn to develop that balance internally by understanding the link between the activation of the sympathetic nervous system (activation of the adrenals) and the freedom and ease of activating the parasympathetic nervous system (the cooling down / recovery process).  As you begin to stimulate change you train the body to find greater recovery allowing a progressive program to bring about profound change with extreme time-efficiency.

Does it stay at 9 minutes?  Of course not.  In the first week we wake up the lymphatic system (asleep in most American adults), begin accessing the nervous system in different ways, initiate the interplay between literally every muscle in the body, and train our bodies to use near twice as much oxygen. Simply.  The following week we progress . . . to 12 minutes, and so it goes from week to week. As the body improves, we continue to train for enhanced recovery and with that we can add new challenge.  Even the most advanced exercisers will find extreme benefit in exercise sessions that may last up to only 45 minutes in the last few weeks of the 10-week program.

So, if you have a desire to be better, and you’re one of the people who is thinking about it, sitting on the fence, running the risk of splinters finding their way through your jeans, get off the fence.

You can join the program this week, even though it’s already started.  You’ll gain instant access to the Week 1 presentation and all of the associated materials, and I’ll include a Fast Track system to get you caught up by next week.

Linking Confucius with a quote about butt splinters may have been a stretch, but our old friend Ben Franklin really did coin this quote, which I find holds true as much today than ever.

“Many people die at twenty-five, but aren’t buried until seventy-five.”

Many of those deaths take place on the proverbial fence.  I meet people who tell me they’re too old to exercise at the age of 32. I meet people who tell me they can’t lose weight because they have three kids.  The excuses run deep, and they aren’t lies.  They’re beliefs, and in those beliefs lies an acceptance of an early death.  Perhaps not death as in the end of life, but death of dreams, death of the sense of possibility, death of finding the human betterment we’re all capable of.

The first step in reviving a dying fence sitter is . . . well you know by now . . . get him or her off the fence.

You can still join ALIVE Across America for only $25 a week.  You can still burn fat, you can still move back toward perfect health, you can still improve function and performance, and you can still find a renewed sense of potential and well-being.  Yes, even if you’re 32.  Even if you’re 61.  Even if you’re 74.  Even if you haven’t exercised in years.  Even if the only vegetables you eat are McDonald’s french fries.  Even if everyone tells you it’s too late.  Even if you have been on the fence for a very long time. The time to act is right this moment.  Right now.

10 Weeks Changes Everything. Any Questions?

bigstock-A-man-presses-a-button-beside--32313827ALIVE Across America starts Monday, February 17th, and you should be a part of it.

Because you want to be better.  That’s why.

Whether you’re already fit and energetically sprinting through the tasks of your life, or you’ve started slowly moving along that dis-ease continuum, the ALIVE program will make you better.

Over the past week I’ve been inundated with questions related to the continent-wide program.  I’ll share some of the answers here and urge you to join us for 10 weeks of thrilling physical change.

The first question is one I’ll pose, one you should carefully consider.

QUESTION: What do you have to Lose?

ANSWER: Pain.  Fat.  Frustration.  Fatigue.  Disease.  Confusion.  Distress.  Anxiety. Doubt.

Here’s another, related but perhaps more important:

QUESTION: What do you have to Gain?

ANSWER: Control.  Passion.  Health. Fitness.  Power.  Balance.  Energy.  Optimism.  Confidence.  Sexuality.  Social Magnetism.  Ease of Movement.  Productivity.  A renewed sense of your own Potential.

‘Nuff said?

If so, then register:

How ‘bout another series of Questions posed by yours truly.

  • Is the program affordable? Yes.
  • Is the program simple to follow? Yes.
  • Is the program realistic? Yes.
  • Is the program do-able anywhere?  Yes.
  • Can you do it with a minimum of equipment available for less than $100 in any sporting goods store? Yes
  • Will you look and feel better?  Yes.  Yes.  Yes.  Yes.  Yes.

Beginning with only a 9 minute routine, and progressing to learn to master six movements and a special twist on six minutes of daily aerobic exercise, you’ll activate a metabolic process that frees and burns bodyfat,.  You’ll activate a metabolic process that enhances strength, enhances energy, supports endocrine balance, and reverses the progression of dis-ease by acting at its root core.

Ready to enroll?  Register.

Here are some of the questions that came in via email and abbreviated versions of my responses?

QUESTION: Do you get to know everyone in the program?

ANSWER: I’ll answer that with a qualified yes.  I review everyone’s registration form and get a sense of the primary goals, obstacles, and conditions among the group members.  On every webinar you’re encouraged to interact either via voice (we keep the phone lines open for questions) or in the chat window.  The more you participate, the sooner and better I get to know you.  We also have an interactive Facebook group ONLY for people going through the program.  It offers a fantastic arena in which to ask questions, get advice, and get to know the other people in the group.  I find the ALIVERS  who participate the most on the calls and the discussions are the ones I feel most connected with.  You’re not forced to actively participate in any of the discussions, so if you wish to remain in the background that’s fine.  Just know that the people I get to know best are the ones who are regular contributors and participants.

QUESTION: How many webinars are there?

ANSWER: There are ten (10).  One per week over the course of 10 weeks.  They’re held Monday at 7:00 Eastern, are very light-hearted and conversational, and each webinar delivers vital concepts and strategies for the week ahead.  Although there is an order to the webinars, the personalities among participants play heavily in making each group a unique interactive experience.

QUESTION: If I sign up, do I have to commit to all 10 weeks?

ANSWER:  Of course you’ll want to commit to all 10 weeks, as the changes that take place are the cumulative effect of the week-to-week shifts.  With that said, if for any reason after the first session (prior to the second week’s webinar) you decide it isn’t for you, you can email your intent to cancel and no further monies are due.  You will have invested a $15 registration deposit and $25 for Week 1, you’ll get to keep all the downloadable materials you receive, and there is no further obligation.  As soon as the Week 2 seminar begins, everyone on board is “in” for the duration.

QUESTION: How is the fee billed?

ANSWER: $25 per week, exactly as it sounds.  Each Monday you are billed only $25 and that’s the entire cost of the remote program.  You can opt to recruit an ALIVE coach for additional fees, but if you believe you can follow directions offered via the downloads and webinars, there isn’t any additional obligation.

QUESTION: What do we learn in the webinars?

ANSWER: Answering that is like answering the question, “what do you learn in college?“  You learn a great deal.  It isn’t “school” but the principles delivered relate to exercise science, human performance, the hormonal system and how to affect it naturally, adjusting psychology and mindset, motivation, supportive eating, shaping muscle, fat reduction, and health science.  It isn’t delivered in strict lessons, but rather with real world examples and simple-to-grasp concepts related to the lives we lead.  The webinars are fun, friendly, and light, but don’t be fooled.  The information is extremely powerful and you will gain some lifelong lessons.  You learn to prepare your kitchen to support you, how to find supportive meals in a pinch, how to “cheat” and not suffer for it, how to eat in restaurants, and how to handle momentary hiccups and missteps.  You’re guaranteed to get at least one or two “A-ha’s” every week (i.e. no wonder the diet didn’t work for me, no wonder I can’t lower my blood sugar, no wonder I don’t see the changes I saw last time I worked out, etc. etc. ad infinitum).

QUESTION: How do I access the routine?

ANSWER: To prevent people from trying to take shortcuts and jump ahead (which would be counter-productive), the routine is doled out in weekly segments.  After the first session you’ll get instant access to a series of downloadable pdf’s.  Each week you’ll get additional articles, insights, and exercise illustrations and explanations, all simple to follow.  After each webinar the week’s materials are accessible to everyone in the group.

QUESTION: What if I miss a webinar, or a few Mondays?

ANSWER: It’s always best to be there live on Mondays, primarily because of the ability to interact, question, etc., but if you miss a few, you’ll gain access to each recording shortly after the presentation concludes.  You won’t miss a beat.  There’s also a discussion board only for people in the group so you can connect with other people from around the continent going through the same program you are.  The discussion board is a much-used feature and the participants develop surprisingly strong bonds.  For the 10 weeks of the program, even with meetings, flights, and surprise obligations, you can stay very connected.

QUESTION: How many pounds will I lose?

bigstock-Frustrated-woman-with-scale-i-39025033ANSWER: You’ll learn in the first session why that can be a self-defeating question.  Most diet programs focus on “pounds lost,” but fail to deliver lasting results.  Because ALIVE literally transforms your body from the inside out, you first experience metabolic changes that optimize your ability to utilize nutrients.  You learn to boost metabolism.  As you boost metabolism your muscles get better at storing fuel.  That muscle fuel is called glycogen and when stored in muscle it attracts water.  That’s a very good thing, but the scale isn’t all that intelligent.  It can only tell you how many pounds you weigh under gravity at a given moment in time.  It can’t distinguish between lean body mass and fat, thus constant weighing can be discouraging.  Knowing all of that, know that fat loss begins in the very first week.  In the later weeks of the program, once metabolism is stoked, you begin to add in some additional fat loss strategies ensuring that by the end of the program you’ve lost a significant amount of fat.  It would be unfair if any legitimate fitness professional were to give you a “goal’ based solely on the scale.  I can guarantee a faster metabolism, a reduction in fat, and the ability to keep fat loss ongoing and consistent long after the 10 weeks of the program.  You’ll have the technology to get to your ideal weight.

QUESTION: Is it a low-carb diet, a low-fat diet, or something else?

bigstock-Diet-Woman-Kicking-Donut-Snack-32920040ANSWER: I’d have to say something else.  I call it Supportive Eating.  You learn to eat in a manner that supports your desired outcomes.  It isn’t a diet at all.  There isn’t any deprivation.  In fact, because you learn to boost metabolism, most people wind up eating more food than they’re used to as they lose fat.  The body becomes better at metabolizing nutrients, turning food into fuel as it builds new healthy cells.  You will gain clarity about how carbohydrates fit in and all of the confusion related to good carbs vs. bad carbs will be traded for clarity.  You will not be asked to restrict anything, but you will understand what impact select compounds have upon the body.  You’ll also learn real-world strategies for dismissing cravings, for eating better most of the time, and for creating new nutritional habits without ever feeling a sense of restriction.

QUESTION: So is it primarily a long-term weight loss program?

ANSWER: It’s a human betterment program.  It’s helped an astounding number of people get off of meds they were taking for previously diagnosed chronic diseases.  It’s demonstrated profound shifts in blood sugar and blood pressure.  It relies upon a science that reverse the inflammatory process that drives most dis-ease.  It’s also a program aimed at optimizing movement, making daily tasks easier, improving performance in any athletic or social arena, and of course, developing an enhanced body shape as it obliterates bodyfat.

OK, now it’s on the table.  It’s for people between 16 and 86.  It’s for people of any fitness level, even those who haven’t exercised in decades.  Invest your time and energy in maximizing what the next 10 weeks can do for your body, your health, and your life.  The time investment is minimal, the program is proven, and the results are yours for the taking.

Returning to Perfection – Yes, Perfection!

We’re only a few days into the New Year, and in all honesty, those who were fit are still fit, and those who aren’t . . . . well . . . their motivation and hope are beginning the all-too-familiar downward spiral. If you understand intimately . . . I’m here to rescue you.

Adorable-babyConsider this. As 2013 wrapped up, I asked 100 people whether they were born into Perfect Health. 94 of them said yes. If that’s representative of our population, for the sake of discussion, let’s assume 94% of us were born healthy. Our hearts pumped just the right amount of blood. Our brains instantly began forming neural connections. Our lungs took oxygen from the environment and sent it into our cells to initiate the process of metabolic energy production. Our immune systems ramped up to battle microbes and bacterial invaders. Our guts knew what to do with nutrients.

Sure, we needed nurturing early on, but the gift of Perfect Health was ours (continued below).

If we lived in a clean, sterile environment, if we continued to be nurtured, if we were fed foods that were grown or nourished in the presence of sunlight, if we consumed plants grown in mineral-dense soil, and if we challenged our skeletal, muscular, and cardiovascular systems with the ideal amount of resistance, I suspect Perfect Health would be sustainable.

Of the 100 people I spoke to (all during the intake process for my A.L.I.V.E. program), with ages ranging from 26 to 74, not a single one claimed Perfect Health in the moment. Not one! The real world is not supportive of Perfect Health, and in that, we have to recognize our power and our responsibility.

We have the power to rediscover health, even in the presence of toxins, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated fats, and free radicals. We have the response-ability to offset the damage that seems inevitable when considering the onslaught of cellular dangers. I’ll take it a step farther.

I’ll go as far as to say, we have the ability to resist, even cure chronic dis-ease. Of course, in order to maximize our ability, we have to understand the challenge at hand.

Quite simply, the challenge is oxidation. I’ll give it another word, one you’re more familiar with. I’ll call it stress.

Stress drives biological aging. Stress drives inflammation. Inflammation drives disease. Type 2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, metabolic syndrome, abdominal adiposity, hypertension, and arthritis are not natural.

Obesity-in-red-letter-46495114I can say the same for obesity (a chronic metabolic disease). Although near 70% of our adult population is overweight, I daresay this evolution is unnatural. We’ve accepted dis-ease as “normal,” only because abnormalities are so common. If one individual in a village developed a second nose, he’d be considered an anomaly, but if all the villagers grew two new nostrils as they neared 40 years old, the villagers would likely become accepting.

bigstock-Businessman-tightening-his-bel-51568765That’s a metaphor for what’s happened to your friends, your neighbors, and your family members.

They haven’t grown new noses, but, if they’re fat, sick, tired, or inflamed, it isn’t normal.

It’s just accepted.

Don’t be accepting of movement away from Perfect Health.

I’m inviting you to join me, without leaving your home, for a total of 45 minutes, during which I’ll teach you precisely how to begin the movement, immediately, back toward the Perfect Health you were gifted with at birth.

New-Year-S-Resolution-Medical-2449512I realize, only days into January, most people have already abandoned their resolutions. They wasted their money on their pills and potions as their “eat right and exercise” commitments wavered.  The line at the juice bar at Whole Foods was shorter today than it was Friday. Gym traffic has already reduced significantly. People are falling back into their habits and rituals, those same habits and rituals that eradicate health. I’m not referring to drinking alcohol or smoking. I’m referring to accepting the stresses of the world around you as “OK.” I’m going to give you the ability to release the power you have to combat stress, beautifully, happily, victoriously.

Fit-woman-stretching-her-leg-t-34835051I’ll teach you, in only 45 minutes, how 6 minutes of aerobic exercise with a unique twist can un-do years of inflammatory damage. I’ll teach you, in only 45 minutes, why six exercise movements are literally ALL THE RESISTANCE EXERCISE YOU NEED! I’ll teach you, in only 45 minutes, how a 9-minute routine can immediately start the process of moving you back toward a lean, functional, well, happy condition we can only call Perfect Health.

In the past my seminars and webinars were hours in duration, but this year I’ve created a new format, a hard-hitting abbreviated version that not only shows you what you need to do, but shows you precisely HOW TO DO IT.

You’ll join me from your own home for a 45-minute webinar that I guarantee will shock you, stun you, and empower you to change.

A day doesn’t go by during which someone fails to say to me “I know what to do, I just don’t do it.” I’ve learned quite a bit in the 30 years I’ve been helping people regain health and fitness. In most cases, “I know what to do” means “I think I know what to do . . . but I lack true clarity.” I’ll give you that clarity.

Join me, February 4, at 7 PM Eastern Time for 45 minutes you’ll never forget and you’ll receive extreme value in extras and bonuses. Find details on my Better and Better seminar, conducted for the first time as a webinar (previously shared only with medical groups in workshop settings), sharing the secrets of the A.L.I.V.E. protocol.
